My new Tdi!!! (cheers Frank)
Well I'm happy to say I'm the proud owner of a '97 TDi I just bought off one of the forum member's here and I love it! I believe I'll be the third forum member to own this particular car now...someone correct me if I'm wrong.
It's a TDi with d-gas conversion done by BeeUtey I believe, manual, SE+ with some pretty silly looking woodgrain and great condition interior and exterior. A really well looked after car with a fair few goodies on it too which I can't wait to take into the wilderness one day. I just flew over to Adelaide with my wife, picked it up, then drove it home to Melbourne via Hahndorf and the Adelaide hills, then on to Port Fairy, then via the Great Ocean Road back to Melbourne...stopping for some great wine and food along the way and all in all a great weekend away.
Most notably about the TDi that's different from my V8 which I am trying to sell is that it's a fair bit noisier, but a much more solid feeling drive. Also the fuel consumption is outstanding! I filled up once with a full tank of diesel and a full little tank of LPG, then halfway filled up the LPG again but didn't touch the diesel, then got all the way home with some diesel still in the tank and the odometer reading 892km!!! Now that's not just straight highway driving, that's through twists and turns of the majority of the Great Ocean Road too, so I'm very impressed. Great pull too the diesel, certainly not gutless by any stretch...just a little noisy.
I hope you don't mind Frank but I'm going to borrow one of the pictures you sent me of the car because it's filthy now after driving along side the ocean in the rain all weekend. Here she is:

The only issue with it is that fuse number 8 blows seemingly after having the headlights on for a prolonged period of time, which means I completely lose all my dashboard lights...something I just put up with after replacing it during the journey only to have it blow again an hour later. Hopefully this can be fixed but I think the previous owners had trouble with it too.
Think I ran through a big bunch of locusts too, didn't deter the diesel it just powered on through yeah!
Anyway all in all very happy with the Tdi, although I will miss the smoother quieter driving of the V8
But I'm sure the benefits of such a great Tdi more than make up for that

Well done Angus. I had a 3.5 V8 for ten years and now also have a Tdi with lpg. Forget the noise mate, you can buy plenty of earmuffs with the money you save on fuel. :-)
