    Thermo fans

    Hi all,

I'm slowly getting the jobs done on the car and the next step is the Thermo fans infront of the radiator. Can I get any 10 inch fans? I've found some s blade fans on eBay which say they are ok for pandora but just wanted to check. Cheers

Phil, yes any 10 inch fans will do. I suggest Supercheap ones.
You will have to work out mounts for them, and do not use the through the radiator zips if you are going off road.

PS Did you hot wire them to the battery to confirm they were stuffed?

    Hi Fev,
If you get a set of Ford EH-EL fans these work a treat, you can buy them from a wrecker for about $100, thi includes the fan shroud which can be easily modified to suit the D1 radiator. I got a thermo controller off Ebay for about $50, this is a push in one the bulb goes in the core of the radiator, not one that goes in the hose. Typically I have one fan on for normal running around and I have a switch for the second fan for off road work, beach runs etc etc when you need the extra cooling. I didn't have much success with the standard fans that you attach to the radiator, they worked to a point.
I think you'll find the Ford fan shroud a much better option. The AU fans are to wide and foul on the engine pulleys. Hope this helps.

Ok, before I go and spend my hard earned...

Which fuse/relay controls these fans so I can check that first.

    Cheers

Phil, it is best to start at the finish and work back, if you get the drift.

If the fans work , you will know that the problem is further back, then you go back along the wiring until you find the fault.

You could look at the fuse which controls them however, but if the fuse has blown you have to ask yourself -why?
If you like you can bring it over and I can have a look. This shouldn't take as long as last time but we still will have to remove the grill.

One thing you can do easily is bridge the switch that I showed you on the thermostat housing. With the ignition on, just touch the two wires together and if the fans are OK they should start, although that will probably not tell you whether a relay is crook. I think it is a different relay .
I know I wasted a lot of time and contortions checking relays when in the end it was the fans.
    Regards Philip A

Ok so in prep for this weekend...

I'm going to check the fans before buying new ones but also going to:
    1. Fasten door liner back in properly
    2. Replace gasket on iac input to plenum
    3. Replace exhaust manifold gaskets (easy to do? Any advice regarding necessity to drop/support exhaust)
    4. Try to fix leak on sunroof - seems to be coming in front centre and dripping from sunroof controls.
