    300Tdi Engine oil cooler pipes

    Hi

I have new upper & lower engine oil cooler pipes to fit next week. Just wondering if the engine oil needs to be drained before fitting these. Anything special I need to know?

    Thanks
    Geoff

Geoff, get some viton o rings for the ends if they are not on the newies. Replace the bottom one first, and get something to collect the drainage, because the cooler in the radiator will have oil in it. Don't overtighten the replacements, as the o rings may crush and the lines will leak at the unions.

It's just a bit messy and fiddly, that's all.

I'm thinking of bypassing the radiator cooler on my 300TDi and running an RX7 engine oil cooler instead located behind the grille somewhere.
    any comments?

Seconded on the o-rings. You can't get them just anywhere either as they are a funny size, need to come from somewhere that sells Rover parts.

When you take the old ones out, make sure that you check that the old o-rings come out too, carefully use a small blunt screwdriver if they are in there. They don't look like much but they can stop the new lines going in properly.

New pipes arrived yesterday - complete with new o-rings .
Thanks for the tip on removing the old ones. I'll make sure I check thoroughly that they are removed.
