    2nd choice

Hi Markus, waiting for tax return to come in to get new boots for my disco, so thanks for your info, What size did you buy? what would your second choice have been and why?

Also any one else bought an all terrain tyre recently, what was it and are you happy and how much.

    Hey mate,

I went with 225/75/R16 slightly bigger then stock (just) but with the tread these things have it fills the guard nicely as at this time I only have a 2inch lift no camel cut.

A close second and it came down to price were Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac. 3rd would have been BFG AT. I was really after a 50/50 tyre and some of AT's though may have a reasonable top tread don't have much in the way of side wall tread.

So it came down to this.
    ST Maxx $250 a corner
    Duratrac $330 a corner.

Get to try them off road at Ourimbah in a couple of weeks so will give some more feedback then.

Well Ourimbah is coming up this Sunday so looking forward to that.

In the mean time had them down to the snow last weekend and although no snow on the road there was a lot of black top to cover including a fair whack of black ice. Obviously no substitute for sensible driving but after a 1200km trip I had no issues at all. A muddy slippery paddock - easy as you would expect from an aggressive AT tyre. Dry, wet, icey black top - no issues.

So far very happy especially for the price

    Cooper ST MAXX feedback

    Hey Guys

Put a set of ST MAXX on my Defender - great performance all around BUT onthe trip between Perth to Kununurra via GRR + rocky off-road and 12,000km, the rear tyres have chipped a fair bit and are about 50% worn. The front are fine.

I was running about 37psi in the rear, average speed 60km/h on tracks.

Seem reasonably poor wear performance, not sure how other tyres might compare.

    Cheers

    Phil

    Interesting.

I came away from Ourimbah with hardly a scratch to the tyres. Admittedly very different terrain and nowhere near the km but no chipping or cutting.

37psi seems kind of high to me for that kind of terrain and speed which could certainly explain the wear you experienced.

thanks for the feedback though good to hear other peoples experience.

    Cooper ST Maxx

    Hi all

I just fitted a set of ST Maxx' to my Defender. I went for 265/75 R16 and so far (one week) am Very impressed with them. I was a little sceptical at first as I had read in an English LR mag that the change was mostly down to EU tyre noise regulations. However I have done a small off road mud trip and two weekend trips to Bribie. they are just fantastic in the sand and very happy with the mud performance. On road super quiet and handle well. I had BF AT's on before but so far I'll stick with the Coopers.

    G'day Phil,

37 is a lot more than I would be running on rocky roads. My old Cooper ST's chipped very badly also, not a new problem for Coopers I am afraid.

110 or 130? And how heavy was your set up?

I am now on the 3rd set of tmaxx' on my work Hi lux 70% of Gibb running between Derby-Mt Barnett-Kununurra. These tyres are brilliant as far as punctures go, But as far as wear goes they are absolute ****e. I think you'd get better wear out of a condom. They chip and throw blocks like nothing else. The most i've got out of a set was 22k. The set that are on there now will be changed for something else. I don't know what yet. Any suggestions?

    Cheers
    Rob
