Thread: 95 Landy Disco Series 1

Hi all, just wanted to touch base with you all as I am a "newbie". I have owned my Landy Disco 1995 Series 1 for nearly 3 years now. We fell in love the very first time a laid eyes on each other and the love affair just keeps going . However, , I encountered a problem last Friday, when it just stopped. My mechanic told me that it was a rotar, or something, and that it needed replacing, so it was and spark plugs and lots of other stuff, but it was missing and back firing, so I took it back that night. He then rings me Saturday and tells me that I have a compression problem and that it will cost thousands of dollars to fix. Does anyone out there know anything about this and can you recommend a good mechanic that knows what he's doing please and guestimated cost to fix or replace engine.

Has your disco had performance issues for a while? poor compression would happen over time. if it just stopped, that would indicate something mechanical in the engine failing, ie. head gasket, piston rings, valve spring. A backfire could indicate an ignition problem. Get a second opinion before spending big bucks. include a compression and radiator CO test to diagnose a blown head gasket. Good luck!
