But the Defender is set up for load carrying and the Discovery for people. I can't speak re the Disco for leg room but the Defender is a lot worse than you would think for the length of the vehicle. I would not be surprised if the Disco is better. Certainly wouldn't put adults in the Defender rear for any length of time.

Like Scrambler said, the extra length of the 110 is in the boot. The D1's boot is very short, which was improved in the D2 (at the expense of rear overhang). Leg room, or more to the point, comfort, is better in the D1 because your feet can go under the seat in front. The defender cant do this because of the battery box on one side and the other half empty box on the other side. If it is cargo space you are after, go with the defender. For the comfort of a rear seat passenger anything over 4 foot tall, go the D1 (and buy a roof rack).

I had a defender 110 set up as a tour bus years ago and the middle seats ex factory had hopeless leg room. In those days the front support was a piece of pipe with a bend, I turned these around 180 deg and cut a recess in the wheel arches and moved the top lock which moved the seat back a good 3 inches. Vechicle was inspected every 6 months and was never noticed by inspectors looked factory. Made a heap of differance and was simple to do. Wish I took photos.
