    Replacing power steering fluid

I've got 5 litres of Dexron 111 fluid spare as i've switched to synthetic in the gearbox. I thought I may as well replace the power steering fluid with the D111 as its been in for 14 years.
Does anyone know the procedure for replacing the fluid?
I see there is a bleed nipple so i'm thinking that I could drain from there and just keep topping up the reservoir, is that the correct method of getting all the old fluid out?

    Cheers

I undo the line on the steering box and drain it that way.

I've never actually just changed it for the hell of it but I see your point, 14 years is a while.

I'd be rapt if mine would keep the fluid in there for 14 months let alone years

Changing it involved jacking the front end up, taking the return line off the pump, blocking the port with a 1/2" plastic cap and dropping the return line with a suitable extension (usually a piece of copper tube) into a catch pan, turn the engine on and have someone keep feeding fresh fluid into the reservoir. Turn the wheels to each full lock and hold them there momentarily then back to centre. I rty to flush at least 5 litres through so I know I've flushed all the old stuff and any contaminants out.
Hard off road can really cook the fluid.
    from here power steering fluid.......

(and yes it's weird quoting myself )

The bleed nipple is just that for after you've re-filled the system and you may need to get additional air out.

You can also drain and refill the reservoir many multiples of times, and just by dilution you end up replacing the fluid, but IMO it doesn't get all the potential containments out
