    Possible earth problem ?

    Hi all,

I'm beginning to think I may have a possible earthing problem, 94 V8 AUTO

    1. Intermittent wipers will stop working, then restart again if I leave them long enough, but will work properly if on either slow or fast.

    2. The central locking, via using the key in the drivers door will not work from time to time, it can not work at all when I try locking it in the morning at work, but then will work again after a couple of hours, and when it's not working the security system doesn't work either.

    3. Sometimes the car won't start at all, gas or petrol, get out, lock the door, let the security light do it's thing, unlock the car again and it fires up.

    4. intermittently won't idle, most of the time it is fine but then sometimes it just won't idle at all for a couple of hours, and look a little silly revving it up at the lights or around round-a-bouts so as it won't stall.

    Any one got any idea's

Hi Not sure about your wipers maybe dirty/loose connections. The central locking and the car not starting could be linked and to do with a pain in the butt little black box called a spider. Do a search on this forum plenty of info there from memory located behind radio/centre consol. something to do with bad/dry solder on cicuit board. It controls the immobilizer and fuel relays i think. A common disco complaint (apparently) Intermittent idle maybe air leak on the intake plenum check all hoses for leaks/splits (maf rubber intake gets old and splits) also could be dirty/faulty stepper motor (think thats what its called) located on the rear of the plenum (three hex bolts) easy to check and clean. Good luck hope this helps

Going through some electrical issues myself at the moment.Central locking, rear wipers, electric windows, faulty left indicator.all were related to 1 earth that had come off near the left front kick panel and due to that the body control module is playing up as well as the electric window ecu.The module is on the back of the fuse box and controls a lot of the electrics,it may be worth a look.My car is also a 94 update V8.I also agree with the spider as mentioned but I would think you do not have that on yours.Good luck.

For ground issues you can check this: Google Traductor

And before to dismantle the multiufunction unit, you can run its diagnostic test Google Traductor

I Agree however with MMEJ regarding the spider module.
