    Low Km's worth extra $$$

I'm looking at buying a D1 V8. Looking on carsales vehicles with low to mid 200,000km seem to be going for 6-7k and low km under 150,000km are 8-9k.
So is the extra couple of grand worth it? I want something that will give me the least trouble and be in the best condition.

Those numbers seem a tad high, I bought my 1998 D1 V8 Auto off E-Bay last year for $4,700 in Sydney
I was the only person to inspect the vehicle and only 1 other person bid.
It had 147,000 km, 4 brand new tyres, full Landrover Dealer service history with books, never been off-road, did not have a towbar, Lady owner only sold because had moved into a unit and it was to high to go into underground car parking. Only issue was only had about 8 weeks rego left on it.
It had great paintwork and immaculate inside.
Have not had an issue apart from it no longer being quite so immaculate. On the road it uses approx 14.5 L/100km however that is on the open road not city Km. Off road it use 20+ L/100km
Bide your time to get the right one

It is a buyers market where Landies are concerned. They are hard to sell no matter how good they are so all the advantages are with the buyer and not the seller. Bargain hard, start real low and be prepared to walk away - not that the seller will let you as buyers are scarce on the ground.

From what I see on Carsales many asking prices are aspirational rather than realistic and these same cars just sit there unsold. In fact from what I can gather many never even get an inquiry.

All this is good when buying but bad when us owners want to sell.

Thanks, but what about the km vs price? is it worth paying more for low km's?

If I was buying then no. To me low kms may be an indicator of lots of short, stop/start cold running which is bad - read expensive - for the next owner.

No not unless all other things are equal. Look for a service history, lack of accident damage, and generally good overall condition.

One person could do more damage to a car in 100,000 kms than another in 300,000 !

    Good luck.

I value low km's but more so I value a full service history and a bit of background of the previous owner and life of the car. I would prefer to buy off an owner who has had it and actually done long trips and a bit of off roading with it and the car has come out without a hassle on the other side.

Just a bit of off topic thought about your search...have you thought about getting a Tdi instead of the V8? I started with a V8 but then swapped it (paid a little more too) for a good Tdi and I couldn't be happier. You may have already driven each of them and made up your mind that you want a V8 but for my mind if you haven't you should at least test drive a few of the Tdi's first and see what you think.

If you want a V8 just wait for a real absolute corker that may be priced high but you should be able to get them down...there are lots of them and most are relatively hard to sell compared to the Tdi's so you should be able to have a field day as a buyer.

200,000km on the last of the D1s (1998) is only 15,000km a year anyway, which is probably on the low km side of things.

I'd be more wary when they get to 300,000km, and then be looking for a real bargain at those kms.

200,000 - 230,000km is fine, less is always nice, but as mentioned service history and general condition are the biggest factors.

Look for one that has actually been given some love and had things fixed when necessary.

    Hi there,
Psychologically when someone is looking for a new vehicle klms tend to play a bit part in things, good service history always good to see. Also depends on petrol or diesel, diesels are renown for their reliability and longevity. Diesels are expensive to repair if they aren't looked after. Everything has pros and cons, really is what you see and what you want in a car.
