    Manifold to extractor bolt broken

Had a exhaust leak sound coming from the passenger side front, on examination i found one of studs which holds the extractor pipe to bottom of the manifold was 3 turns loose i suspect it was never fully screwed in.
There is damage to the first three turns of the thread in the manifold, could i tape this out and install a new stud or drill it out and put a bolt and nut through.
    Any suggestions appreciated.

First, are the threads in the manifold SAE flange badly damaged, particularly by heat erosion? You could run a tap through and see if they restore. Do you have a lathe? If so, you could make a new stud with slightly oversize diameter in the manifold end to take up the wear.

When dealing with any exhaust system fasteners always use high temperature Loctite Anti-seize.
