If you don't engage diff lock, all the power will go to the disconnected drive. That's normal for any standard diff - power will go to where there is the least resistance.
Engage diff lock and off you go.
Hi All
We removed the front drive shaft today in our 1997 TDi Manual Disco as it has done a Uni. Our intention was that i would drive it home as a "rear Wheel Drive" and do the uni tomorrow but it appears that was a poor plan as I now have no drive unless i engage centre diff lock.. We have scratched our heads about this as it is not how we planned it to go..
Is this right??? shouldn't there still be power to the rear??
Thanks
Scott

Hi Ron
Thanks. I didnt drive it home as i was unsure about driving it with diff lock engaged so far. Thanks Heaps for the info, it makes sense to me now.
Cheers
Scott
One of the blokes from the LROC drove his D1 from North Qld to Sydney on the front diff and diff lock engaged after breaking a rear diff towing a semi-trailer out of a creek!
He fitted a MaxiDrive rear after that.(I bought the MD off him a few years later and fitted it into my previous Rangie.)

Had my front uni die a couple of weeks ago and live in country vic. I drove with diff lock on the transfer case engaged no problems. Did around 250km, if you have a ARB locker to like I do, DO NOT engage that or you will cause damage.
I snapped a front axle out bush, pulled it out, locked the centre diff and drove it around for about 6 months before I had the time to fix it - not a problem
