    custom air filter

I need to buy a custom air box so i can hook up my snorkel. at the moment i have run a duct around into it but the duct is closing a little and reducing air flow. i saw in a 4x4 mag a bloke who had a cylinder type air filter on his disc and the snorkel tapped easy into it as the filter hole was on the wheel side not the front where the second batery would go.
you see i blocked that hole and made one on the engine side as it was the only place to get under the filter inside.

So after all that does anyone know where i can buy a cylinder type filter box and filter?

Have look at Donaldson filters, they are very efficient. Otherwise measure up the space you have and go wandering around the wreckers. mid 80's to 90's hiluxes had a very good circular filter you could cut and shut one of them to fit.

Range Rovers and Discos V8s (at least dunno about diesels) up to 1992-93 had a cylindrical filter.
LRA do a kit to tap into the side for a snorkel.

You must have a custom snorkel, as the ones I have fitted all used the existing D1 filter and we cut access into the passenger side and cut off the trumpet and covered the hole.

Hi Kip, just caught your post re air filters, depending on what type/model Disco you have, you can fit, as I have to my '97 300Tdi, a cylindrical type filter assy off an earlier 200Tdi in place of the square "pancake" style one originally fitted, benefits are 1/ more easily connected with your snorkel (Safari brand on mine), 2/ cheaper replacement elements, 3/ I understand this type of element to be more efficient, it certainly works well in heavy dust on trips along the O.T.T up Cape York. Even still have LH front corner space for dual battery. A little bit of a fiddle to remove element for replacement/cleaning though, but worth it I reckon.
You should be able to get hold of one from anyone wrecking an oldie, got mine from a LR workshop/parts guy, cannot remember how much it cost, but it is all steel not plastic.

The 300TDi Defender one is a cylindrical. Approx 310mm long (not including the outlet) by 175mm high including the mounting base and rubbers. The inlet is on the side and the housing can be turned in any direction.

Actually it would be easier to scrap the base and mount directly off the rubber mounts.

good luck with it big fella.

Just a point the 93 discos had a cylinder air filter as thats what I have on mine, it may be easier to just get an early disco filter as it will bolt straight in
