It's just the couple of bolts that hold it in and the wires on the back pretty simple really hardest part is threading the old one out from underneath and the new one on
How hard to replace the starter motor in a 99 3.9L v8i?
Old one is dead. replacement has arrived this morning. Instruction page in workshop manual looks waaaaaay too simple!
any advice or tips please? (keep in mind I'm a complete novice and what would take you guys 10 mins will take me probably an hour and 3 broken fingernails)
thanks

Yeah, the bolts. They are usually allen key types so you need a suitable bit to engage the bolt, 3/8 drive extensions etc to turn the bit. I have hex bolts on my RRC starter and it comes out in 10 minutes.
Thanks guys!!
I'm off to borrow some tools etc this arvo and hoping to give it a go tonight. I'm hoping that my small size and tiny hand size will actually be a benefit in trying to get it out undernearth. Just better watch out that I don't clunk myself on the head with it as I get it out!!
Oh and sorry - before I forget - I can see it has a heat sheild/guard on it. Do I have to remove that?
Remember to disconnect the battery first, it easy to short out the terminal on the starter when removing them. I found the bits on my Impact driver fitted the allen key bolts so I taped it into a socket and undid them with the ratchet drive.
Cheers, David.

Don't forget the small 10mm bolt that retains the front of the heat shield. It is hidden inside the engine mount bracket. As other have said disconnect battery first!![]()
you're welcome to bring it round if you need to...

Did mine recently. It took me about 6 hours.Mainly because the 2 allen head bolts were done up so tight (or Loctited) that I broke 2 Unbrako allen keys to crack them loose. Also found it easier to remove the exhaust drop tube from the manifold to the first join. Removed the drivers side engine mount, (to get the heat shield off), then found the hidden screw in the middle of the mount for the heat shield (10mm socket). Putting it back together was easier and quicker as I then knew how it came apart.
