Thread: Bonnet let go at 100 clicks! Check your latch!

I had a bonnet on a XB falcon let go at 80 kph on a logging road, through a cutting it completely flew off, ripped the hinge bolts out of the bonnet and did a couple of somersaults as it flew over the car and landed. I was taking an elderly mountain lady into Tumut for her shopping. We drove around town with out a bonnet got the locals staring.
Who was that man with the Vic plates driving in town without a bonnet

Same thing happened to me on thursday morning. I was only doing 80km when a truck passed me going the other way. The blast of air was enough to pop the bonnet open. Luckily the catch stopped it flying completely open. Nearly had a heart attack. Always thought the latch was a bit dodgy. I will be putting in bonnet pins. Not having that happen again.

Yes I guess that's my next move, the dirty south!
Do any of you cascade sculling convicts have one down there?

    Glad you weren't injured.

I had a mate who had his Mini bonnet go and it caved in to top edge of the roof and smashed the screen.

My would always float up and down at the corners so I fitted aerocatches. No more messing about with the daft handle in the footwell.

Cheers for the help guys, latest update is I took it off, jumped on it a voila! Looks ok but the frame is bent, anyway the bonnet is now jammed shut and will require a crowbar no doubt to open it

Not sure if the hinges are bent, they look fine, but well see.
