I expect the 245/70-16 will be LT whereas 235/70-16 are not, so the ride with the 245 will be a bit harsher but the tread depth is a lot more so more useful in sloppy stuff.

I also didn't know that extra width also added to the diameter, thanks for your advice.

Yep, sure does. The 70 refers to the height of the sidewall expressed as a percentage of the width.

    So 70% of 245mm compared to 70% of 235mm.

I think you will be happy with them.

    Further advice on tyre size

Hi I hope its ok to hi-jack the discussion!

I also have a 96' Discovery, 3.9i which has see rather a lot of modifications but is a superb vehicle (bought as such). It has a 2 inch lift with AWL Land Rover 7j x 16 x 33 rims (is this standard?). The tyres on it are BFG LT 265 / 75 / R16 mud terrains.
Unfortunately they are at the end of their life, after great service (one puncture only). However as they are rather noisy and as we are now doing a lot more on road travel, I would like to switch to BFG 245 / 70 / R16 all terrains.
Would these tyres fit on the rims I have in place? An alternative would be the Cooper 265 / 70 / 16, however I am reluctant to change to the Cooper as the BFG has been great. Any advice would be welcome.
Thanks very much and sorry for the intrusion.

I will vouch for the Scorpion ATR's. Very good on road and very good off. I will say a perfect all rounder.

    Yes.

I would suggest having a look at the Pirelli ATRs. I was going to fit BF Goodrich All Terrains when I had to get the Pirellis instead (BFs not available in the correct size on the day). I have never regretted the decision (and I have used the BFs before, they are a good tyre).

Quick update after several thousand klms, ended up with the Scorpion 245 ATRs and am most impressed.
They are super quiet on the highway compared to the Michelin ATRs that were on it, they look good IE fill the wheel arch nicely and just look the right size compared to the old 235 Michelins.
About the same on the sand as the old Michelins but they were fairly bald so not much digging in with them.
Cant really fault them for what there used for either beach work or highway.
BigJon thanks for advising me to go the 245 route, much appreciated.
    PS
    The 245 are LT tyres.

I agree, the only disadvantage with BF´s is the price here

    Regards
