Nice D1 - mine is similar.
Definitely get the upgraded overflow bottle.
As others have said, the radiator doesn't need to come out to do the belts. Have any of your pulleys moved forward, so the belt is running at an angle?
Because the cooling system is pressurized, a water leak from the heater can mean the system is not pressurizing properly and coolant is not going to the top of the engine, which is very bad. I recommend you get an LR specialist to make sure all is OK, for peace of mind.
I get around 900kms from a tank. It is possible to adjust the fuel pump for acceleration improvements, but don't overdo it.
When running well, they are great engines.
so just got new belts on, new tensioner in, and figured out something is eating my drive belt..... grrr. (the wear is just on the engine side, about 2mm wide)
will check the angles on the pulleys mick, cheers.
That's no good.
My PAS pump recently malfunctioned. Its pulley moved slightly forward for where it was meant to be and was chewing the belt. I replaced the entire thing and it solved the problem. Maybe check to see if you can see where the belt should be moving over the pulleys while you're checking the angles.
aahh, right, that might make sense, it was chewbacca-ing while turning on the short test run this afternoon.... will look into it.
i love this forum, you guys are great.
If the pulley hasn't moved, maybe the belt is just running slightly back from where it should be and can be adjusted.
thanks Phil, i'll drop you a PM as soon as exams are done, and i'll come borrow it. cheers.
updates:
exams done.
lady is home from india.
aircon clutch rewires (maybe works - will check when back on the road)
new glass in passenger front window (glass and water out of bottom of door, rusty bits treated). this was a bigger job than i anticipated.
PAS pump pulley def sitting forward, awaiting parts from LRseries to get this done.
i ordered a new pulley as well as a new pump, overkill perhaps?
also ordered some silly silicone intercooler pipes.
cannot wait to get this beast back on the road.
Sandman, the pulley surely wouldn't be at fault. It'll be the pump internals.
