if your good with a spanner, I need your brain.

I want to service my auto on my 97 v8 disco. Now i thought that all i would have to do is change the oil, just like changing the oil and filter when i do a service on the motor.
But i got worried when i was told that the oil i needed was not the total oil the auto takes because some will still be left in. i dont know something like that.

Basically how do you service a Auto?????

    Auto service

Not a big deal. The oil inside the torque converter cannot be removed by draining the transmission. Buy a service kit, loosen or remove the chassis cross member below the transmission sump (makes it easier to get the sump out), drain the oil, remove the sump and replace filter, refit cleaned sump with new seal, refill transmission.

Or take it to a Auto tranny service centre and have them drain all the oil and replace, probably cost $200+ but you will get the old oil out, Regards Frank.

Would not the old oil contaminate the new. What's the point of oil and filter if there is oil still in and it makes the new old.

The operative words being; "drain all the oil", most auto service centres can drain "ALL" the oil, Regards Frank.
