I'd go to an exhaust guy and get a piece of tube stretched to fit as a sleeve over it and have welded on. Will be much stronger and shouldn't cost more than $20- or so.
Hey Guys
I gave a lend of my 95 300 tdi Disco to my father when he reported a funny sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. He said it sounded like the exhaust has broken a mount. I told him to bring it over and I ll have a look.
This is what I found, so as the title says, what could have caused this, bearing in mind he was just driving to and from the golf club!
I checked the rubber mount thingies and all seems in order.
Is it a simple fix i.e. weld it all up?
Cheers
Dave

Gee Dave that's a weird one!
This was an original one piece exhaust?
It doesn't look like it has hit the A-frame, so what happened to the missing bit?
Was it a weak point and it just blew out a hole, then slowly hinged back and forth til it snapped?
Possibly!!!!
It is a strange one. Just over 2 years ago the previous owner had the centre muffler back replaced so it s not like it was corroded.
It is actually all there just a bad photo!
Where it was broken, it was a single piece between the two mufflers.
I'm bringing it in to an exhaust place tomorrow. Hopefully he ll be able to shed some light on it. I showed him the pictures today and before I told him he knew it was a landy, he knows his exhausts!!!
During manufacturing and bending the pipe may be there was a small fracture in the pipe. Constant heating up and cooling of exhaust has expanded the crack until it gave way
