    Old timer advice ????

Heya all, ran into an ol'timer the other day & he tells me he has built up more than 3 landy's and has run up & down the cape in them all his life, so he knows a few things about land rovers. I asked him about disco 1 gear box's and crawler gears and he tells me don't bother, go and get a defender transfer box n bolt it in the disco box, it'll all go straight in, no probs, unbolt the old, bolt in the new..OK.
Does anyone know if this is true or not..& will i get closer to the crawler gears i'm after just from doing tranfers over ????

True, you'll pick up something like 10-15% under drive on high range (compared to a disco high range)..... low range will remain the same at about 3.32:1

the ratios are different to deal with the change in the tyre size between the vehicles.
