    Temp guage

    Hi guys,

    I have been having problems with the electrics on my 1996 300Tdi. (haven't we all ?) The temp guage has a mind of it's own and being a TDI I'm a bit paranoid.

    I want to fit a standard aftermarket thermo bulb temp guage. Has anyone had experience with this and where would be a suitable location to tap in to the cooling system.

    While on the subject - my electric window lift system progressively shut down while crossing the Nullarbor last year and I fitted a tested replacement ECU to no avail - any hints ? I don't think the switches are the problem or the motors as I have tested them.

    As for the windows, it was the Window ECU you replaced and not the engine ECU. The window ECU is usaully the problem with dry jionts on the board.

    Hello and thanks for the reply. I have snapped one up from Ebay...

    Yes it was the window lift ECU I replaced with a known tested serviceable unit. I suspect it is an earthing problem and have seen something on the net somewhere about a retrofit earth modification.

    I have just discovered that the viscous fab hub has given way (again) and despite my self tapper modification it barely turns the fan under load. I have super glued the guts and refitted two self tappers so hopefully that will improve it's cooling capacity untilo I have time to machine up a solid fan hub. I don't see the need for a viscous fan in the West Australia summer !
