Disco 1 V8 Transfer Case Oil Change
I have a 1995 V8 Disco, auto, the transfer the transfer case is weeping a small amount of oil, evident by seeing oil droplets on the bolt heads securing the access panel on the bottom, its not too bad but I would like to check the level and top up and then see how much I am loosing,
Question is I cannot see were the fill point is?
Can anyone advise,
Best regards
Anthony

I think they all end up with drips on those bolt heads, mine certainly has, but it never actually loses any oil.
The fill hole is on the back of the box (towards the back of the car) just near the handbrake drum.
You get a socket handle (without a socket attached), half inch I think, and use it to undo the bolt.
The oil should be level with the bottom of the hole.
You normally fill it until oil flows out the hole, then wait 'til it stops flowing and put the plug back in.
The drain bolt is also clearly visible on the bottom of the transfer box.

Hi Anthony,
Fill point/level plug looks the same as the drain plug. 1/2 square from memory.
It is located on the back of the transfer case about half way along and just above the "6 squares" cover plate.
Hope this helps

Place the oil bottle in hot water and the filling will be much easier. Also, make sure you only use the socket handle. I used a angle attachment and managed to put pressure on the edge of the brake drum and now I have a small vibration from it.
