    300 TDI Oily Intercooler

Hello to all you Disco Fans! I am in the process of changing timing belt, Seals, Waterpump, P Gasket etc. In removing Intercooler Pipes today i noticed signs of oil inside the Pipes and intercooler, Not much, just a smear, here and there. Can anyone tell me if this is normal, or is something Fishy going on ? Please, any info would be appreciated.

It's pretty normal to have a smear and now presents you a good chance to clean out the intercooler.

    The first signs of oil

    Hi 1disco

I would get someone that does know turbo's to do the test for wear, just incase.
But having some slight traces of oil is a normal occurrence, as the oil fumes migrate from the engine breather.
Wash the airways out, dry them all thoroughly and then keep a eye on it, over time all should be good if the oil takes ages to return.

wash the inter-cooler out with a solvent
but important............rinse thoroughly and leave to "air" for a day or two to get rid of the fumes, as you don't want it to run by itself
