    My D1 fridge storage solution...

A work in progress on the new tdi, getting ready for a big trip in three weeks.
Here's the fridge, a waeco cf50, the cargo barrier is from a d2. The fridge has to go in the middle due to the main frame of the barrier. I cut a square out so the fridge could push up the the back seats. I put rope handles on to fit the fridge as did camo man with his d1. Its snug in there! I'll update this as I go...

I got these 650 mm runners from Peregrine distributors, they're in devonport and on eBay etc.

$50 sheet of 12 mm ply and $50 roll of marine carpet. I'll see what I can do...

Ply on the base, bolted to the rear cargo points with the barrier.

So far the Lhs is open for recovery kit. It can be reached from in the car or from the rear. Plan is to have duffle bags on top etc

Old bit of melamine made up the slide with a bit of treated pine either side for support. All glued and screwed.

I have found that plastic tool boxes tend to disinigrate after a few hours on a rough track, as does multi layer draw type metal ones, my solution is one of them shallow cheap plastic stackable boxes with lids from K-mart. Most of my tools are in canvas type rolls which act as a cushion for my socket sets, everything is spread over a larger area and the lid keeps everyting in place, when they do break and they eventually will a few $'s will get you another one, Regards Frank.

I'm just decommissioning my second set of rear drws at the moment. I built the first myself from marine Ply. Stood up extremely well for a few
Years. I then bought a waeco cf40 and had to modify for a trip to QLD. That setup worked extremely well till now.
I've just started a major restoration Job on the old girl so will do rear drw setup mark3.

Good looking set-up but do you reckon there's enough airflow around the motor?

It's too hard to see from the pics but I've drilled large holes around the fridge motor and cut a slot in the bench o ver the top between the cargo barrier to allow air flow. There is also a reverse angle where the cargo barrier follows the rear sets which leaves a large air space. But yes it's tight otherwise.

I used the box the fridge came in to cut a template. Don't know the measurements. A fair bit of freestylin with the circular saw was going on

The rhs has a bit of wood from my deck with a 8" bugle screw tying it to a metal lip under the rear window.

    nice set up,
i pulled the left rear seat out and mounted the fridge there, easy to get to without slides, but i don't need five seats.

oh, by the way, boags draught is better, but i prefer coopers pale ale.
and put it in the fridge, food isn't all it's cracked up to be.

    Interesting.
Would there have been enough depth to fit the fridge in on the side, if the uprights weren't in the middle?
I ask because I plan to make something similar myself later this year, so I've started thinking about it. I doubt if my 40 litre Engel will fit, although I haven't measured it properly yet, so it may have to stay in the camper and I might buy a smaller fridge which can also be used as a freezer when we use the Engel as a fridge.
