    Coolant Alarm Sender Unit

    Hi All,I thinkI have Solved my Auber gauge mounting problem.Iwill post it when finished.I now want to know where on the cyl head to fit low coolant alarm sender unit as I would like to retain std temp gauge is there somewhere else it could be fitted. A photo would be a great help. "Bee-Utey"Very helpful guy suggested I use the Auber gauge and set temp alarm which should do the job. Thanking All for their help Regards lucky lozza

    Being a bit /very anal, I found a threaded hole in my Thor manifold and then found a bolt to suit and drilled a hole in the bolt, pushed in the sender and took up the slack with conductive silver paste, then sealed it with araldite. The sender of the "inexpensive temperature gauge " is 4.7MM in diameter and a 5MM drill worked well.

    If you can find a bolt which is not holding much, eg NOT a head bolt, this is a good method as mine certainly changes quickly.

    See if there are any spare thread holes on the back of the head, I don't know if the 300TDi has them like the V8.

    Not sure we are talking the same thing here but I picked up one of the $25 'Autospeed' type temp sensors and fastened it down to an existing bolt that was holding some wiring on the fuel pump side of the 300TDI.
    I just flattened out a piece of 13mm copper pipe and first formed it around a nail of the same diameter as the sensor to make it a snug fit, then removed the nail and pushed the sensor home. I've not took the car for a spin yet but did test the sensor holder by boiling a cup of water and just dipped the flat part in the water, registered 92c pretty quickly so it should work ok as that would be the approx temp of the water after sitting the cup for a minute or two. The copper is quite soft and transfers the heat very well I found...ouch!!
    Do the low coolant alarm type ones have to come in contact with the water or are they just working on heat transfer as well?
