    Drive Belt Tensioner

Is totally Kaput! Bearing is gone........it's in bits.

I've got the old one out, but any suggestions on where to get one this weekend?

Provided the bearing was held in by clips - I have a spare 6203 bearing you can have - southern end of the Gold Coast.

Thanks Langy. Unfortunately this non working car is my only transport so your a bit far for public transport from Cleveland!

I'm hoping MR Automotive is open as per usual Saturday trading. They're only a 2.5 hour public transport ride away!

    If it is a 300tdi.........

It is possible to change the bearing, but the circlip can be difficult to remove & replace

FWIW I would suggest buying a complete new tensioner

the shaft on which the tensioner rotates, wears and eventually misaligns, compounding the problem, and when bad enough will cause the belt to break (usually chirps for some time before it happens)

It's made by Dayco, part # APV1004 and sometimes places like Bursons and Repco have them too.

I can actually buy one cheaper from Bursons (trade) than I can wholesale from my favourite Land Rover parts importer.

It just gives you options if MR aren't open.

Thanks all for the advice. I've located a replacement at Repco at Albion - only a 90min public transport ride away............and my darling 18yo son has just set out to go get it for me.

$40 dearer than the trade price I get at Burson's Capalaba, but they couldn't get me one in till Wednesday.

So if you hear the wind carrying a sound like a lady swearing her head off and cussing like a sailor later today, It's probably just me trying to do the changeover!

Ok so I've got the new tensioner in. Size wize it is identical to what was there. BUT, the pulley is at a different angle - so now the belt is too long!
It's currently got a 7pk 2238 in it, but I think can probably now go down maybe as low as a 2200.

None at Repco down here, none at Supercheap. So it's going to be fingers crossed for Autobarn in the morning!

well it's official. I'm an idiot! I needed an apv 1005 not 1004. And of course no one in Brisbane has one anyways......I was lucky to find a 1004.

As they appear identical I'm very tempted to just unbolt the pulley and put it on the old one, then the belt size would be right.

    What engine ?

The 300Tdi definitely uses the APV1004 (according to my Dayco catalogue and the box I have in the shed)
