I'll be watching this with interest.....
Gents,
As the title says has anyone fitted a full ALU rad to a Disco v8, did you see much improvement over the standard one?
Cheers
Jim
I'll be watching this with interest.....
Yep, pick me..
i had a fenix ally rad put in mine.
how do you judge if it works well??
it fitted in the hole where my old one was.
all the pipes and hoses fitted, no probs.
and she looked sexy when i opened the box.
and the temp guage stays where it should be.
with the old radiator the temp would go up a bit on a really hot day, so thought i would get it rodded.
radiator bloke said it was really dificult to get the type of radiator i had in mine soldered up again after rodding.
He quoted me about $800 to replace mine with a new one.
so i bought a fenix one of ebay for $400 and had it installed on its next service.
so far so good. im happy with it.
Thanks
paul
Cheers for the replies Gents!!!!
Presently I've removed all the oil coolers from the rad, trannie, engine oil to try and cut the thermal runaway at long lights in 40+ heat.
I'm running goodridge oil - air forced air coolers and they work a treat.
So far called alisport in the UK no response via phone or email, next trying High Performance Cooling by Serck Motorsport let's see what they come back with.
I know my cooling circuit is A1 I've carried out a good back flush & de-scale last October.
Unless you have had the radiator dismantled and rodded, you can have no certainty that the radiator is not partially or almost wholly blocked.I know my cooling circuit is A1 I've carried out a good back flush & de-scale last October.
The tubes in LR radiators in RRCs and d1s are very small and easily blocked.
Have it rodded as a baseline, however you will most probably find that the core is a write off, so amybe a Fenix is on the cards anyway.

Put a Fenix in mine after some overheating issues around a year ago.
So far so good, no problems at all.
I had my original rodded about 4 years ago and was pretty good for a while, eventually had to bite the bullet and spend on the ally fenix job.
I'm in the process of swapping out the 3.9 for a 4.4 so hopefully all will still be good after the change.
When I was surfing ebay for Fenix radiators their ebay shop didn't stock the DI radiator any more?
Also with a 4.6 fitted how much bigger / more efficient radiator can be fitted? and go to electric fans at the same time.
My radiator is buggered so there is no point in repairing it but I dont want to go down the path of just a straight swap I want to get a better one.
Britpart do an aluminium replacement radiator, with plastic end tanks on it.
Far far better than the old ones. I had trouble a year ago (leaving me on the side of the road) with the standard one in my car, and put in the Britpart one, and drove it next day it hasnt had problems since...
You can put your hand one side and then the other and feel a difference in temp (not adviseable when its very hot though....)
