Indeed. After replacing my head hasket at 260k (AND replacing the viscous fan hub with a new - probably britpart - item) I thought all would be good for a while and there was no rush in fitting a better temp sensor or low coolant alarm...

No dice - when towing the boat a few km down the highway to get the outboard serviced I found out the hard way that the new fan hub was not working. $600 and a 2nd new head gasket later...

There is no comparison between a 300tdi and a 4BD1T - or a commodore for that matter. So given the commodore time is 0-100 and the disco is 0-96, the disco would probably be ~20s 0-100 - so about 2.5x slower than a stock commodore.

I have a 7 seater 300 Tdi manual , To me it is personal opinion about the head gaskets going at 250 ks, Might have something to do with servicing i dont know i change my coolant every 2 years with Nulon ,Mine is at 320 ks and no probs , But as JC says im a exception to the few This is the second Tdi ihave owned i had a Td5 in between each , The Td5 is more refined and more powerful but im a dinosaur and enjoy the simplistic Tdi motor over the Td5

The 300 Tdi is on a par for perfomance with the 200Tdi and i dont know how some can say a auto is quicker off the mark than a manual drive each and you will soon know the difference for your self I have driven both and i own a manual not just to be quicker off the mark . I have observed alot of non rover mechanics that will not work on rovers as it is the unknown to them and scared but in the end they are just like any other car out there .

I understand that's what rover designed them for, it just seemed like a good idea to ask the people who use them, and lets be honest, land rover do sometimes miss the target when they're trying to do something,

to the best of my knowledge there is very little between the manual and auto in performance terms, I was just asking if there was any difference other than personal preference, I've driven a manual 200tdi and that seemed to go fine, its as much about how they cope with a load behind that interests me, and again whether transmision choice effects how they deal with hills etc under load

My daily driver is a 95 Disco 300TDI manual. But my daily drive, 75km does include fun windy mountain roads

I love that Land Rover.

Did in our head gasket, but that would have been avoided if we repaced plastic plugs on Radiator, thermostat housing with $2.40 brass ones.

Do fit a low water alarm, about $150, and save the headache.

300TDI mtors need rebuild at about 350,000km, so take that into account when buying yours.

A 4BD1 would be better.

The TDI's aren't quick but are very economical which is great for a daily driver.

The 3.9 is much quicker but you almost need to tow a mini tanker around behind you, they can be that thirsty.

The main gripe I have about any D1 is the lack of room in the rear, great for off road though as there is little overhang, but not the best if your intending to carry lots of gear.
