    V8 engine quits after revving

    Hi again
As per my previous posts regarding my recently rebuilt 3.9 V8 Auto, another small problem seems to have risen.
When I rev the engine, say to go up a gutter, and I back the throttle off quickly, the engine quits??
Just a quick turn of the key and it starts up straight away, sometimes it will idle correctly and sometimes it will not idle smoothly like it is searching to find it's correct revolution speed, then after about 10 seconds it will settle into a nice idle again, but blip the throttle again and it will rev up then die!!
Any ideas of what I should do??
    Cheers Phil

Raise the base idle speed, 3/16 inch allen key in the hole on top of the air intake side of the inlet manifold plenum. Unscrew the idle adjuster 1 turn or more, this gives you a minimum idle speed. Then remove the idle air control stepper from the rear of the manifold and clean it.

I'd be investigating the TPS as well. They can give erratic idle if worn.

TPS = throttle position sensor, opposite side of air inlet to throttle lever (IE facing the front). 3 wire plug and 2 screws.

I had a faulty spring on my mechanical advance that showed the same symptoms as this, quitting after hard acceleration once, worth a look

    ^^^All good info,

I have seen more than a few where the throttle plate goes back over centre the wrong way, shutting the engine off.

Check there is a small gap around the edge of your throttle plate (remove black rubber inlet hose first) pull throttle open and let it snap shut, then have a look with a torch.

Off course (as Bee Utey said) set the base idle first - but remember you need to crimp, or block off the air bypass hose (1/2 black rubber) from the side of the plenum (firewall side) to the stepper motor housing, theis way your idle speed is true without the stepper motor trying to adjust out the changes you are trying to make.

    hope that helps.

    Keep us posted.

P.S CLEAN EVERYTHING!!! 3.9's are grubby little buggers
