V8 fits V8 when it comes to Disco 1 and a 89 RRC. More probable that the RRC gearbox is the LT77 - almost identical to the R380.
G'day
My first posting!
I have been offered a 1995 Land Rover Discovery V8 on gas. The only problem is that the gearbox needs replacement.
I have been asking around and have been offered a gearbox out of a 1989 Range Rover Classic.
I have been researching gearboxes and on Wiki I found reference to the R380 gearbox that was fitted to the Discovery, but not fitted to the Range Rover until 1995.
My research indicates that the 1989 Range Rover Classic will have a LT85 gearbox.
My question is will the LT85 fit in a 1995 Discovery?
Otherwise does anybody know where I can find a replacement gearbox. I live near Dubbo NSW.
Regards
Chris

LT85 will not fit, shifter comes through where the heater box is, the LT77 is a backward step, very weak and hard to repair properly/ cheaply as they are getting on a bit. V8 R380 gearboxes aren't that hard to get.

Will a V8 R380 fit where an LT77 was original in a Disco?
Yes, it's a good conversion.

G'day
Thanks for the info, but I missed out on the Discovery. I am going to save a few $$$ and keep on the lookout for one.
Thanks for the info.
