I'd only do it with drive disconnected to the affected end.
Once you've worked out which end has the problem, remove that prop shaft.
Even then you do run the risk of further damage.
Are you in the NRMA? They might assist.

No i might just get i towed picking up another disco 1 next friday night eith blown motor for next to nothing so i csn strip it down and kerp the good bits

David is it hard to change output shafts from transfer case.
Ok have put the car in the air and front diff only 1 wheel turning when i spin. When i put on the diff locks both shafts spin but only the rear wheels spin nothing happening in the fron.picked up another 91 disco friday night for $800 so might start with replacing diff and then move all the good stuff over like long range fuel tank, body lift and the brand new tyres
