I am rebuilding a 300tdi from the 94Discovery I bought and I have noticed that the exhaust seems of poor design.
I've heard that they suffer a lot of turbo lag down low is this true?

I've also heard their is a guy getting around Adelaide that has developed a system that removes almost all lag.
Has anyone used this system? Does anyone know who he is?

Any tip on how to upgrade the power out of this little oil burner cheap and easy would be really help full
I'm current ly in the beginning stages of a full rebuild so nows the time to do the upgrades

Thanx for the help guys in advance!!!!

I have removed all mufflers and just use a 12" hotdog in place of the main muffler , Helps reduce the turbo lag slightly

I'd say Bee Utey would have a bit of advice I know he does a lot of good things to Discos and he lives in the Adelaide area...he's done a couple of things to the Disco I have now and it drives really well.

a tweeked of your fuel pump will get you rolling betting off boost and gives you a bit more power on boost

i removed both the muffler and resinator on my system, it doesn't sound noisey to me but apparantly its quite noisey.........the only benifit i noticed was the turbo spools a little quicker re: power, welll i reckon you need to put it on a dyno after each change to find where and how much power you have gained

Has anyone actually just gone out and put a bigger exhaust on one with no mufflers and see what happens

I went with a new 2.5 normal bends no mufflers

Quite a few guys on here have put 3in straight through system

My opinion is it hard to gauge how much extra performance with just exhaust changes

i'm happy with my 2.5 system, if i did it again i would have kept the resinator

have the pump tweeked, there are instruction floating around here somewhere

    install an EGT guage

i have had a noteable increase in drivability throught the combination of changes

re: 3in systems, i think its an overkill as the 300tdi only a tiny engine compare to the 4L engines running around with 3in mandrel systems fitted.....stick with a 2.5 system i reckon

That's exactly what I thought! I was thinking 2.5 inch and try to improve that angle under the engine mount. I'll have a look for the pump tweek!

EGT is a must. I will also run oil temp, water temp, boost pressure and a volt meter on each battery
