    Gearbox Has Moved??

    Hi,

I recently went to the barrington tops, i drove over a log and well bellied out but not enough to damage the sills, after i got over and back onto the road i kep missing 3rd gear and hitting first. The leavers resting position has now changed and is hard up against the left side which is in line with 1st and 2nd gear, all gears are operating normally with no crunching or grinding. I have inspected the mounts but seem to be ok.

Any other suggestions would be great!

    Its a Disco 1 97 manual TDi

    Cheers Ben

It's nothing dramatic and can be rectified with the box in place, but you have a broken bias plate. This is the component which centres the stick on 3/4, and has the bias springs either side.

See here: R380 Gearchange - broken plate! - Land Rover Zone

Removal of the centre console and rubber cover will reveal all. Easy to replace or weld.

you're only in trouble if both levers move to the same side at the same time..

that means youve totaled the gearbox mounts.

you'll definately know that when it happens.
