Oops bit more research those don't appear legal, are + 50 lamps and relay switch the way go.

I know there are a few threads regarding this topic but there doesn't seem to be a common consensus.
Is something like this the way to go:
H4 HID Hi & Lo Kit 55W Land Rover Landrover County 110 130 Defender Discovery 3 | eBay
or do Traxide make something better with switched relays. The last thing i want to end up with is some super bright lights that dazzle oncoming cars. Any suggestions appreciated.

[QUOTE=Tombie;1746365]you can get +100 now...
Search as i may i just cant see which lamp is for the Disco.
A couple of horn relays from Jaycar would sort the other bit.
If you look at the advertisement picture of the car with those HIDs and startling glare from the lights, you will know how annoying they are to other road users.
If you look at the before and after pics, the so called almost daylight pic you will notice the glare it causes looking at the road ahead, Street sign reflections will also tire the your eyes.
Add legal "+" halogens and do a wire upgrade with relays and you'll have better lighting and not having the oncoming drivers wanting to throw a brick at your illegal HIDs
Yea most definatly going with legal +" halogens lamps.
Could someone point me to a online supplier of these that would suit a 96 disco, as for the life of me i cant seem to find any.

Make mental note to myself don't ask dopy questions the day after you are out on the drink.![]()
Hi Sparky and whether you get one of my headlight kits or do your own thing, you need to upgrade your headlight wiring first.
You are wasting your time and money buying the higher wattage globes if you don’t increase the headlight wiring because the higher wattage globes will cause a bigger voltage drop and you end up with no improvement.
If you upgrade your headlight wiring first, you may find, as many of my customers have found, that your existing lights become so much brighter that you don’t need to get the higher wattage globes.
Wot 'e just sed...
1. Wiring.
2. Any new "+" xxx% headlamp bulbs will look better, but avoid the blue-dyed ones.
3. Have a close look at the inside surface of your current headlight glass... is there any milky deposit on the INside ? - If so, a piece of microfibre rag and a wooden poker to wipe it around and get it off.
4. Worst news is... that a visible layer of dust/grime on the outside of your lights will reduce the output by... wait for it.... around 50%.
- Actually the news is good, means simply keeping the headlights clean lets ALL the light out !
Look up past threads on HID headlamp replacement... You don't want the hornets stirred up again !
PS, Also clean the windscreen, in & out, to let all the light back in...![]()
As Drive safe said, upgrade the wiring 1st.
I've tried the higher wattage globes in a D1 I owned, they blew every 6-8 months. The Wiring connector at the back of the headlight had signs of overheating.( Melting)
So a drive safe kit would definitely go a long way to avoid this happening.
It should also stop your indicator /headlight switch having a meltdown.
Thin wires get hot when stuff is drawing power through them
I have +50 Narvas in my D2 and found lately they were not as bright as the used to be..... After I washed the disco 1st time in months and cleaned the Headlight lens of all the road grime, the light out put improved 100%. Amazed that even the headlight washers with windscreen additive still didn't clean the headlights effectively in use.
I recently fitted some 100 watt Narva bull lights in spot and broad beam, I got around to actually wiring them up today.
I ran some left over 8mm cable ( from a previous dual battery install) direct to the battery terminal in the engine bay fuse box, then attached a 30 amp auto reset circuit breaker just after connection, the C/B fitted well into a spot on the fuse box, only had to modify the lid with a deeper slot.
I fitted a circuit breaker as I was running the wiring under the Radiator support panel, and didn't want a live wire sparking if I had a frontal collision. This then ran to a dual 30amp relay and followed through to 6mm wiring direct to the bull lights.
Took it for a drive tonight though the forest and found them more than adequate as driving lights in beam width and beam distance.
So I wouldn't even bother going for a HID kit for driving lights.
The only problem I had was finding a suitable spot for the dual relay ( New Era Brand) there wasn't a vacant space for it in the V8 engine bay so I ended up fitting it behind one of the headlights.
I'll probably do the same for the Headlights run them off a relay each, using up more left over cables. I think 8mm is over kill for the supply lead and have 8 mm earth also going back direct to the main battery earth strap .
