heat transfer between the exhaust and inlet manifold on a 300tdi disco?
ceramic coating, that tape you wrap the exhaust manifold in etc, they are in very close proximity and I was looking at it yesterday wondering what the best way to go would be. Have got my allisport intercooler arriving and thought it would help some to reduce heat transfer between to two.

Ages ago I was wondering how easy it would be to encase the inlet manifold in a coolant jacket, pumping fluid contraflow, to aid in an intercooling type of effect. I worked out that the effect would be marginal compared to a real WTA core intercooler, and the danger of springing a leak concerned me too

I think wrapping / shielding it from the exhaust manifold would certainly help in higher ambient temps, yes.

I was thinking more of wrapping the exhaust, not the inlet manifold

do both and fit a WTA intercooler cannon in place of the metal tube between the turbo and the intercooler.

like dave says, try both. bit difficult to properly wrap the exhaust manifold in a tdi though

strip it out first and then use the wire wrap muffler bandage type stuff that gets malleable when you wet it.

If you can correctly bandage a penetrating wound to the thumb ball joint area of the palm of someones hand doing a manifold wrap of the manifold once its off should be a walk in the park.

I'd be reluctant to wrap the manifold, you'll more than likely end up cracking it, bit I've wrapped the dump pipe back to the t/case which helps a lot on heat transmission into the cabin.

Jet Hot/HPC/SwainTec coatings on the inside/outside of an iron manifold apparently work well without overheating and cracking it, so would help a lot.

I've often thought of encasing the inlet manifold in two pack urethane and then using aluminium foil tape as I use to reflect heat from electric elements but I'd still be a little worried about the insulation catching alight from the stinking hot manifold on a long, hard run.

Hi not sure about the cast manifold, but wrapping extractors and headers reduces their life expectancy dramatically ..Gary

Yes they tend to corrode faster I have been told, apparently?

I haven't seen evidence of this first hand though.
