Discovery 1 tdi 1996
I had a bad experience, yesterday we had travelled about 140km MI went to turn off and becuuse of bad clutch the old girl stalled. It was then impossible to start,a passer by kindly stopped and we tried to jump start my vehicle with his old landcruiser to no avail.I then had to join NRMA basic cover to get towed out of the dangerous position I was in,$279 later I was towed about 2km to the party I was heading for.Because he was a M1 tow truck he left me there an arranged for a RACQ mechanic to attend. When the mechanic arrived he rang me and I met him at the venue where my disco, was parked, he started to ask me my troubles and I said hold on I will see if i can start it, it fired straight away. The mechanic had no clue o what might have caused it. The same thing occured two months ago after stopping the car after driving for about 100km. Sorry to bore you all,but does anyone have a clue what could cause this.

Search - 300tdi starter motor solenoid loose connector
Search - Immobilizer spider repair
Search - Fuel cut off solenoid loose connector
Tip - faulty starter relay (behind kick panel drivers right foot)
They're the top 4 I can think of in relation to a 96 300tdi Disco. the assumption is that either there was no cranking or just no fuel being injected.
The only hard one to fix is the spider repair. That requires partial dissassembly of the dash and some soldering.

Check the fuel solenoid on the back of the fuel pump. Give the wire a wiggle with it running, careful of moving stuff, fan n belts. Mine had a misfire and it ended up being the terminal. Cut the old one off and fitted a new one, havnt had a problem since. Touch wood.

Well after 3 mechanics not being able to tell me what was causing the problem I had to take the car to British Off Road in Forest Glen to have some minor parts fitted.I mentioned my problem to the mechanic he straight away went and got a earth strap hooked it up to the battery and earthed it out on the side of the motor and started without any hesitation sometime some problems seem big but to the experienced are very small. Many thanks to British Off Road for there help.
