Help needed 98 disco tdi electrical

Currently in Dubbo with the inlaws. Their disco is getting hot but when the headlights are turned on the temp gauge goes to normal. Can anyone give me some clues on where to start looking? It is not using any water and we doubt it is actually getting hot but is an electrical problem.

Dirty engine earth cable ends? Clean or replace the earth cables. Battery-to-body and battery-to-engine.

There is also a Body to chassis one that can cause issues.

From the battery it goes to the mudguard and is bolted and then goes onto the chassis. There is also braided earth from the chassis to the starter motor. Am I missIng any?

Get rid of the braided earth strap and fit a proper earth cable. Should have earth cable from battery to engine block ( bolt on timing cover, clean surfaces all), engine block to chassis, chassis to body, I also have engine block to body, but I'm anal about good earths, regards Frank.

for whatever reason the Braided Earth strap was the only one replaced. It made no difference at all. I guess they will replace the others in due course now they are home.
    Cheers
