Um... which way round for Springs?

So I picked up my shocks and springs from suspension stuff yesterday... all good. I then opened the boxes for the springs to find one set is heavier than the other with more coils wound tighter.

Now that's what I expected. But they don't specify what set is for the front and what's for the rear! The springs are Dobinsons 2 inch.

Now this might be a special question but my "logic" was that the tighter wound heavier coils would go on the front to compensate for the diesel motor and batteries etc. Surely....

Then was looking online and it may be the other way round.... HELP ME!

Also check if there need to be on the correct side as well ( Left and Right). Disco springs are usually handed. Get it wrong and it will be on a bit of a lean.

they should have part numbers on them, a quick call to SS will provide the info.

I put the tighter coils of progressively wound springs at the top as it helps with clearing crud out of the spring and accessing the retaining bolts.

I got some kings progressive rate +2" springs from SS recently for my RRC.
The shorter pair would be for the front and the taller for the rear, with the taller of each pair to go on the drivers side. If you have the same springs as me, the thinner wire of the spring goes towards the top.

    Hope that makes some sense.

I had some springs redone by Dobinsons some years ago and I told them I did not want them set up for a harder or firmer ride. It took 4 years of constant use for the car to get back down to its normal ride height. I have refused to use Dobinsons since then.

Just fitted 2inch dobinsons springs from sus stuff last night. The taller springs go in the back and the smaller ones in the front. This might depend on what you asked for so its easy to look up dobinsons on their website themselves and check the parts numbers for the Discovery - its easy to then ensure you have the correct springs you wanted before you fit. Mine had left and right labels on the springs with a small sticker. Now all 4 have been put in last night after work and can't wait to check them on the tracks

Thanks for that everyone. Turns out my logic was very work and a quick call sorted it out.

Have to wait a few weeks to fit it but at least there going in the right way around!

Knew there was a reason I steered clear of engineering.....

I put my new ones from SS a few weeks ago. They are great.
When speaking with them they told me they no longer use Dobinsons as the quality had deteriated. They now use King springs made to their specification. The flex coils they supplied me were black not blue.
    Hope this helps someone.
