4.6 replacment for 3.9 thor or gems????

I am looking for a power up grade and want to stick with LR

I am looking at a stock 4.6 for the conversion

I have been told to get a long engine and install a 3.9 cam with all my 3.9 injection and manifold's ect.
This seem's restricitve to me using equipment designed to run 3.9

what i would like to know can you fit a complete thor engine and use a thor ecu to make it run?

which will make more torque / power where i need it?

also what engine is less allergic to water as this car is going to be a hard weekend warrior / comp's

    cheers Starky

Well the easy bit is the 4.6 Thor will make a lot more of both than a 3.9,,
the hard bit is making it run in a D1,,
I'm not sure what inputs a thor ECU can do without,,

Starky, have a look at ExtraEFI in the UK, they sell complete MS ECUs for Rover V8s. I used one for a 4.6 in my RRC. Its a fully programmable ECU. I got rid of my distributor, MAF and ran it with coil packs and a Ford EDIS system and has a wideband O2 sensor. Bit scary ripping out all the old 14CUX and associated wiring but even an electrical novice like me managed to get it all running. The thing I like is that you can adjust just about anything on it with your laptop. You can tune it for bit better economy when cruising etc + the coil packs a very good at resiting water unlike the dizzy. I just mounted the ECU under the dash.

I rebuilt a 4.6 and put in top hat liners and used ARP studs, used Bosch Gen 3injectors but used the 3.9 plenum rather than what your planning with the Thor. Getting around 15/100Km but I'm still getting my head around all the adjustable parameters (A/F ratio, advance at any RPM, VE, and lots more). I don't think that it would get much better than that figure given the limitations of the Rover heads. The thing I like about the MSII is that it has been around a long time so lots of support and the Ford EDIS is very reliable, even if it does fiz out it just defaults to 10 degrees BTDS to get you home.

Forgot to mention that the MSII runs the injectors as well as the ignition and you can adjust the pulse width on the injectors if you want to.
