    Disco 1 TX air-conditioning valve

Just been quoted $1600 to replace the air-conditioning TX valve due to the fact the manual states that the WHOLE DASH, needs to come out to access it.

Is their an alternative access route to the TX valve.

What have other done, costs etc.

Mis-diagnosis of the TX valve is all to common, ask what are the symptoms, if blocked it could be moisture in system or blocked filter/drier which would give the same symptoms. If the TX valve is stuck open or closed this would also necessitate replacement. Generally a TX valve will fail closed and allow the compressor to run in a vacuum.

I don’t see how one could access the TXvalve without removing the dash but anything is possible here at aulro…

Any doubt get a second opinon.

If it is the tx valve then I'm afraid they are correct - even the steering wheel comes off

    G'day Mate,

I've never had an issue with A/C on mine ('96 V8) but been "in-the-trade" for far too long so I should know what to look for / at.
If no-one responds by 3pm tomorrow (Syd) I'll go and check mine out ...and get back to you.
    Ultrascan first thing ...then Bowls.

Very unusal for a TX valve to fail. I had to have the evaporator assembly replaced in mine because it was leaking. A major labour intensive job, and had me very concerned when I saw just how far they had to go to get at it and replace it. Make sure the evaporator is pressure tested if you go ahead with the job. Also shop around if it does require replacing, as Land Rover wanted as much just for the evap, as the complete job ended up costing me!

After 2 different shops, first one mucking me around as after I took it back they held on to it for 2days then said the job was too big and wanted me to bring it back later and it would take a week!! Not impressed so gone elsewhere, and they started from scratch and confirmed it is the TX valve and unfortunately the cost is going to be roughly the same $1600, Plus I will get the heater core replaced while they are in there. Other replies are correct, DASH OUT, which is basically a days labour charge plus parts. Not happy but can't live without air-conditioning in PERTH!!! It's at the shop and don't expect it back until Wednesday! fingers crossed!

VERY daunting having the whole dash out of the car,,

but it all went back in, took me a day, but the aircon was worth it,,
