    Hello Disco 1 People

    Hi Guys,

just joined tonight and wanted to introduce myself. I am a Disco 1 1996 300tdi owner as of two weeks ago. I'm in a new world and kinda excited. I have already taken her off road (sand dunes north of Perth) and once i figured out a few things the thing was awesome!

I used to do some work for a 4wd tour company in WA so i know a bit about the workings in a car. i know a fair bit about HZ and HD motors on toyotas but im still new to 300tdi.

ill be reading and posting on here a fair bit to get up to speed and pick the brains of all you experts.

there's a few topics i already want to ask about but i'll read the posting rules first and make sure im not doing anything i shouldnt be.

for now i just want to say hi to everyone and thanks in advance for any future help you may give me.

    Thanks,

    Larry

Hi Larry, welcome to the group.
I am in townsville in Qld. Bought my D1 V8 nearly 2 yrs ago. I have had several 4wd's but the Disco has impressed me quite a bit.
It took us to the Cape and back this year towing our camper. The only downside was fuel consumption but that would'nt be a problem with the diesel.
    Cheers, Rick.

Welcome from another D1 300Tdi owner, they are a beautiful thing.
A couple of ideas to keep in mind:

Make sure the cooling system is doing its job because its pressurized and if its not right you can slowly cook the top of the engine.

Rust can be a problem in the front driver and passenger footwells. Strongly recommend you pull up the carpets and hope for the best. Chase the leaks, particularly around the windscreen. Regularly use rust converter and paint, and then a coat of light oil.

Be fussy about regular changes of ALL oils: engine gearbox, transfer and diffs, as it can make a lot of difference to the life of the vehicle.

Enjoy it, and don't fuss about the odd 'character mark'.

hey yea thanks for the info. as you mentioned i do have a leak on the front passenger side. this rain in the last few days in perth i noticed the rubber mat have water on it. i lifted it and the carpet is all wet, so i will need to chase it down. doesnt seem to be coming from wind screen though. seems like there is a drip underneath the glove box maybe coming from bonnet? im going to have a look this w/e, drop water on it and see if i can find where it goes.

Wet carpet /floor usually means a blocked aircon drain, do a search on it.
