    Ah! The jap market 300Tdi discos have Cats, electronic injector pumps and full EGR. On poor diesel they will smell a bit different to non Cat equipped vehicles when under load, for sure.

    I think you justinc might be right, we are checking for other causes. Checked the head and its fine, the manifold gasket was shot though, so we put a new one on.

    I will be checking for water in the tank. The car has been in storage and on the ship for few months, so maybe there is a condensation issue there.

    Just an update.
    After intake manifold was replaced and the truck seems fine now.
    I have been using good quality Diesel now(Shell) and it seems OK.
    I am glad I replaced the intake manifold gasket though, the truck for some reason seems to run little better, it wasn't dirty though.
