    Clean MAF Sensor

    1994 Discovery 3.9 V8i Auto.

Thought I would give the MAF sensor a clean after reading up on the benefits of doing so.

I have searched the forum & google for instructions/video on how dismantle the MAF to clean it but can't find anything for the Disco1, I have found countless others and it appears quite easy, undo 2 screw/bolts lift out sensor and spray the elements ( I bought CRC MAF cleaner).

But for the life of me, I can't work out how this one comes apart.

Can anyone provide steps or a link to a relevant post.

Have attached a pic of the MAF, its a Land Rover 5AM ESR 1057.

I do use the search function I swear, but it dose'nt like me.

    Regards
    Rich

Once you have unclipped the MAF from the air cleaner, look into the inlet at an angle. The sensor element lives inside a 10mm or so hole off to one side. Spray MAF cleaner in here gently, let the cleaning fluid drain and dry before refitting.

Arrree, I was looking for a couple of screws/bolts to undo the top of the sensor and remove it, but now I understand.

Many thanks you really are a bee-utey.

Hi mate, is this the hole (see pic) also does that mesh come out easily as there appears to be a bit of dirt on the other side of it in the bowl.

If you take a close look at your own picture there appears to be a gap in the wire spring clip that holds the mesh in. Have a poke at it.

As for the hole there is only one so that's probably it.

Is that the hole/tube at the top right hand side of box, just above hose clamp, in the 1st pic?

No ... The first pic just shows the MAF

In the other pic that was supplied >>>>

<<< you can see the wire mesh ... Remove the circlip holding the mesh in place

Look inside the MAF body and you will then see a 6mm hole to the left side ...
(The words in red actually relate to this hole behind the mesh)

Shine a torch in the hole and you will see what looks like a "light filament" wire
Clean that wire with circuit board cleaner + the MAF body

    Cheers
    Mike

Then why not just do it, it only takes 10min & proper MAF cleaner is only about $13 at SCAuto.

I took the cautious approach & didn't take the mesh off, just sprayed the MAF cleaner into the hole from the outside as I have been told the filament is quite fragile, so I reasoned that doing it from the outside would lesson the force of the spray on the filament, a fair bit of dirt came out.
