RPM is read off the back of the alternator so I suggest you check the charging voltage first. You may have a crook alternator or damaged earth cables. More a job for an auto electrician.
Hi Guys,
My 96 Disco petrol sounds like it is running on 5 pistons. I have been to a machanic who cleaned the injectors and gave it service but it is still running rough. The RPM meter works after a few mins of the car running and the dual battery charger makes a fast clicking noice when I turn the car off.
Has anyone got any ideas as I need to go back to the machanic but I want go back informed so I can help fix the problem.
Thanks.

Tons of things make a D1 misfire, including low voltage from an electrical system not charging properly. Once you have checked the voltage of the system and found it to be correct you move off into the other 99 things that cause misfires, like plugs, leads, timing, coil, ignition amp, dissy cap, rotor button, mass air flow meter, injectors, petrol pump, cracked block, head gaskets etc etc etc.
