As likely as not the fuel pump is dying. Intermittent operation often comes before a complete no-go situation. You can install an aftermarket pump in the Disco housing, I use a Bosch BFP772 pump kit for this purpose.

Brake booster hoses can be a little loose but won't stop the vehicle, just make it not idle if it actually falls off. And your brakes would not work very well.

Where can I get the kit from + any idea of price, had a look at the usual online places SCAuto - Repco - Ebay ect & can't find them.

Are they hard to fit?? or is there a step by step on the site some where.

I bought the last kit through Burson Auto Parts for around $80 trade. They aren't massively hard to fit, but as always there are things to look out for. The pressure hose from the pump to the housing top is hard to get off the old pump, once you do just hose clamp it to the new pump. Positioning the pump in the housing is a fiddle as there are little noise isolating rubber segments you have to get in position. They fit on a little plastic ring that fits between the pump and the inlet sock. And you must not use any external EFI fuel hose to replace the OEM hose. Only submersible hose can be used and this is expensive ($30/foot) So be careful not to damage the original hose.

You will need some insulated electrical crimp joiners as the new pump has a different plug, which comes with the kit.

If you can't get the Bosch kit you can use another brand, the pump suits VN-VS Commodores. I have installed 15-20 Bosch pumps and they are reliable.

Now you have me worried as I replaced my fuel pump with a kit the other day and the hose I used was external EFI hose, what are the consequences of this?

What type of outlet would sell the submersible hose?

External hose swells up and bursts within a few weeks. Yes, I had that problem with a couple of jobs! In-tank fuel hose is available on order at any parts shop. You could try sending a pm to "glenhendry" on this forum he may have some hose available:

What's your thoughts on a second hand one, I am 30min from a land rover wreckers and they give 3mths warranty.

Not sure on a price yet as I just emailed them.

A second hand pump assembly is quick to change and you will soon enough see if it fixes the problem. Swapping a known good part is a quick and easy job so long as you don't pay too much for it. You then have an old pump assembly you can fix up at your leisure and keep as a spare.

Remember I have just given you a most likely scenario, not a detailed diagnosis of me having your vehicle for a test drive and a while in my workshop. If there are other problems don't blame me for not spotting them.
