Only thing I would upgrade is to get the heavy duty cross pin from Ashcrofts for the centre diff.
They also do the full rebuild kit for about 160$ + shipping.
Cross pin is purchased seperately.
I need some advice from all those people in the know
I am about to get my TC rebuilt after it has started to whine its head off
I am running 32 inch tyres a slightly worked 4.6 and it does some hard work on the tracks and I also use it for towing.
so the question is, should i be getting some heavy duty parts or will standard do the job???
and if heavy duty parts are the go what bits would people recommend???
thanx in advance Matt

Yep, do the cross pin if you are going to give it a hard time, or if you really want bullet proof and have some $$$ to spend, then replace the whole centre diff with a Quaife centre - QDF30KT - Quaife Engineering
There has been plenty of discussion recently on these in Technical Chatter - http://www.aulro.com/afvb/technical-...ff-damage.html
If you only do the cross pin, make sure you replace the spider gear shims as well, they are only a couple of dollars each. At the end of the day, the LT230 is a good strong bit of kit. With a few mods, it will stand up to a fair bit of abuse.
Is the whine just because it's low on oil, or the input shaft bearings are worn? There may not be too much wrong inside apart from a the bearings. I just finished rebuilding mine, and only the input shaft bearings, seals and gaskets needed doing.

checked the oil and changed it after the whine got worse, wasn't low but there was some filing on the magnet...
sounds like the input bearing has gone to God, hopfully no other damaged parts but stripping it next week and have a full rebuild kit for it.
can i get a solid cross pin anywhere in Melbourne or do they have to come from the UK, I really want it back on the road by Australia day weekend![]()
Not sure about getting one locally, but it sounds like you will be up against it to get it done by then...
All the best.

Mine is on the way out too (started making a noise at about 150,000. Is there anyone in Melbourne with a good reputation for doing a rebuild? I have been looking for somebody to service it after the guys I had been using sold their business. Went the a non dealer LR specialist for a major service and was $1700 lighter when I left - ouch. Have been quoted $3400 for a new one and $400 labour. Any suggestions please?
Thanks.
