    Bonnet Cable to Driver's side

Has anyone tried to move the bonnet cable to the drivers side?

Getting almost sick of asking the wife or walking around to the other side, so am planning on moving it.

Just wanted to know if anyone has tried to do it.

    Cheers,

    Chris

No, but it's on the to do list when I get to start the rebuild, shouldn't be too hard, might have to ditch the LR cable assembly and fit a universal cable assembly but that would be worst case would reckon

92 RRC has bonnet cable on the drivers side. You may be able to get an RRC bonnet lock and fit your existing cable to it. Or maybe you can just flip the lock.
I reckon back then that they would have been very similar.

Re: Bonnet Cable to Driver's side

Just this week I was thinking to myself whoose stupid stupid idea was to put the bonnet catch on the passenger side. And its not like the Discovery was originally designed as left hand drive.

One of the earliest Health & Safetly decisions by Land Rover... the idea being that the driver could'nt accidently release the bonnet whilst driving, thereby risk obscuring his vision and subsequently crashing... (and rate a well-deserved mention in the Darwin Awards...)

Or, "They" decided that everyone would rather stand outside the car and use their right hand to pull it...

Everywhere outside of Solihull is 'foreign', and therefore must be LH drive....

Not good reasons ? - who said anything about needing to be 'good' or sensible, merely logical !

James in Gosnells, '95 RRC with working EAS....and bonnet lever on LH side too.

They also need to spaced out further from the side so you can get a decent grip on the damn thing, i broke my handle so if it can easily be moved to the right side i'll do it.

Personally I don't mind. From a safety perspective it puts me on the safe side from the traffic.

Agree! - on mine its up in the under-dash lining, with a cut-out (not enough clearance for your fingers/knuckles) to get a handle on the grip....

'74 VW Passat managed with a hinged liver on the LH side, easy to operate when leaning across.
Or ask the pax to do it.

What about an electric door-lock mechanism or window winder ? - Naturally you'd need one from a non-LR vehicle. (for strength & reliability)

Shining got it right, but 80% of Land rover production is LHD. Thats what I was told when I was at Solihull in 2007.

I believe that was the rationale behind the decision - allows door to be left open etc (kerb side) and access to bonnet release without having to bugger around next to traffic. Makes sense too but can be a PITA anywhere else eg off road..
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".
