    GRRRRRR Electrics V8

Disco worked fine yesterday, today , plenty of battery life (both) but no ignition. RACQ came out to where we're at, Biggenden caravan park, & couldn't find any hassles. Going to come back tomorrow being Monday, after having a look at their books tonight & try & sort it out. There is no discharge on the battery when you turn ign/start on & there should be, so starter is getting no power to it.
The warning light next to the battery light (don't know what it is) flashes as soon as you turn ign/start on, does anyone know if this is relevant??
Only went for a "Valentine's Day" w/end away from kids now we're stuck, oh & it's been ****ing down rain as well, not a happy chappy
Has this happened to anybody else???? if so can you please tell me so I can stop going bald by pulling whats left of my hair out

The light next to the Ign light (I am assuming you mean the one with the battery pic on it) is a seatbelt light. Did not think the Oz D1's used this, but should not be relevant to your problem anyway. I have a RAVE CD at your disposal if it helps at all, unfortunately it is in MY Laptop. I also have a 96 D1 manual AND a 96 D1 auto (both 3.9) parked outside if I can check anything for you.

Any other symptoms. Do you get the other dash lights come up, does the radio work, does the heater fan work ???

What year Disco? Early (Pre 94) can have wet/corroded starter relays - later ( 96+) can have the immobiliser play up (spider). What happens when you use a jumper cable on the 12+ of the starter motor?

It's a 96 3.9, we tried using 2nd battery & it was the same, the light next to the battery light (on right of) is a weird looking light with lines sort of coming off the top of a tube, rough description here. Oh forgot the hazard lights would also flash for a little while then stop but don't anymore .

All other things work except remote locking though they didn't at 1st, I removed battery leads & cleaned posts & lead connections. Before I did that nothing worked, dash lights or anything so am wondering if disconnecting the battery might have helped at all
Thanks guys any input helps at this stage

Your description sounds like the Catalytic Converter over heating light (according to the RAVE CD). Rave also says this light comes on as a bulb check on some models (markets).

FYI, I have a (genuine LR) spider bypass plug as well.

    Auto or Manual ??

Oops forgot that, it' an auto, this was all on the 1st start-up (attempted anyway) of the day. I think I'm happy we joined RACQ now as we might have to get towed, caravan as well, back home tomorrow unless I can sort this out.
    thanks heaps for info

p.s. whats this spider by-pass plug thingy, others have mentioned this before???

There is a black box (immobilizer) buried deep in behind the heater/radio. It controls crank/fuel pump/spark IIRC and has a habit of doing what ever it likes. I believe they get dry solder joints giving intermittent starting/running issues,

There are DIY (very good ones) ways of bypassing the spider, but LR sells ($18) plug that does the job.

not something simple like neutral /park start lockout ??

    Question

The gear lever seems to move easy enough & the RACQ guy got underneath, in the wet & rain yesterday, & said everything seems to be moving on auto box ok.
