Angry VN fuel pump it lives, it died, lived again, but is now dead

 after doing all this work on the weekend, I took it on its first run to Albany, 25 Kim's into the trip it died while running on petrol. Back home I checked all fuses- all good, the petrol/ gas relay it doing its thing, I can hear what I always thought was the pump doing its 5 sec run when I turn the key on, but chased fuel lines back to the filter where the inlet pipe has now fuel at all. I can't check power at the fuel pump as there are 3 gas cylinders in the way again, any thoughts ? Or do I drop a match on it :(. Gary

The hose probably blew off, clamps not tight enough. Happened to me once, too.

If that was the case wouldn't I here the pump continually running? As I assume it is the pump I hear run initially for about 5 secs, Gary

The pump is controlled by circuits in the ECU. It has nothing to with building up pressure like a household water pump. You may hear it running with the engine running on gas if you listen at the petrol filler neck with the cap off.

Also for diagnostic purposes you can test for power (and hotwire the pump) at a plug hanging off the floor just above the rear muffler. Run the engine on gas and you should get battery voltage across two of the pins.
