what is the biggest halogen headlight globe we can put in a 1995 D1, without upgrading wiring or upgrading to HID?
I am thinking of putting in bulbs giving 55W low beam, 100W high beam.
I did find bulbs 90W low, 130W high, but would wiring be up to that? and would these 90W low beams be to bright for the oncoming traffic?.

Hi John and while I make headlight wiring upgrade kits so it’s in my best interest to influence you to buy a kit, but it is actually far better to upgrade your wiring first, other wise, the new globe will not be all that much better.
On the flip side, in most cases, once someone upgrades their headlight wiring, they usually find the existing globes are that much brighter that they no longer need to upgrade them.
More watts may not be the answer. With more watts comes more heat, your light assemblies may not be up to it. I have also heard of the glass being more prone to cracking due to the the greater temp difference. Give the +50 a try apparently they are longer lasting than the +100 etc.
I was able to buy a pair of 100/150 H4 bulbs about 6 years ago but the stockist has not had any more since then. My County was already rewired with heavy gauge wire and two double relays, one each side. Good stuff.

Without going to a heavy duty set up which should include wiring, relays & headlight units, stay with the standard 55/60 watt L4s. The +50 ones as suggested do make a huge difference, its not just a marketing gimmick & removes the dangers/hassles higher wattage bulbs can cause.

Hi the first thing I did was fit the traxide, head light wiring upgrade, this was fairly priced and great instructions that where very easy to follow. I then fitted 90w100 QH globes. I also run hella bull lamps converted to HID., I'm very happy with the result. ..Gary
Do as the others have said and put in a wiring / relay upgrade kit.
I have done this to all my Land Rovers, with brilliant results over the standard arrangement. ( pun intended )
.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".
