Thats is the correct method for attaching a snorkel to this model Disco, so just fix the gaps and you should be ok. Otherwise fit a later square airbox with snorkel to suit.
My D1 is a 93 V8 model and has the cylindrical air intake.
It's running gas, and the whole intake setup looks a little sketchy.
The connection from the filter box doesn't appear to fit properly into the intake end and there's a gap as a result.
I'm looking to fit a snorkel in the near future, but it will be pretty pointless the way it is at the moment, as it would probably let water straight into the engine.
I was talking to the lads at ARB Penrith, and they said they have to cut into the side of the cylinder and block the front to run a snorkel.
So question is two parts...
1) is there a more efficient air box replacement for use with a snorkel?
2) anyone know a good air induction mob in Sydney (western suburbs) that could fix the current mess?

In reality the cylindrical filer housing is designed to have the air comming in the end and not the side, even though a lot of people do....Gary
LordRik, the Safari snorkel kit to fit yours and my Disco's is SS325-HF.
They work fine.
I would suggest that if you are out in the dust for extended periods, that each morning when checking the vehicle before setting off, clean the filter and rotate it a bit.
Cheers.
The air filter element in the round canister is designed to recieve air from the front, if in the side the filter will clog easily and once you have rotated it 4 times it will be buggered, performance will diminish.
Safari setup is the cheap and nasty way of doing it, I will post a pic of mine, works for V8 or Diesel, Regards Frank.

Hi mate I have a late model D1 and I had a custom made ali airbox fitted to mine that connects to the snorkel, it runs a k&n cone filter inside and it works a treat, I will post some pics of it up fo ya so u can understand what im talking about, looks the goods to. I don't know what your laws for mods are over there but my car passed the inspection in wa with no issues
Thanks for the replies.
I had considered a K&N cone filter to replace the factory rig. Looking forward to some pics of that.
K&Ns can load small amounts of filter oil into the MAF which can ruin it, apart from the poor dust catching ability of K&Ns in general.
